This is a great video which takes a peek into Craig Ballantyne’s fridge. In this video he gives up dairy, alcohol, sugar, and caffeine (for the month of June.) He gives up those items for the month of June as a way to help avoid “diet creep” as he calls it. It’s easy to fall into our old eating habits once we have reached some success in our fitness and weight loss goals.

It’s a good idea to try when you feel yourself reverting to your old ways. Simply try giving up one thing for a month to keep on track with eating healthy. You can learn more about Craig on his web site.

Well — yes, of course you can lose belly fat with interval training. You can lose belly fat with any exercise program if you get serious about your nutrition and incorporate strength training as well. The reason why intervals work so well is because you can exercise effectively and have these benefits included:

Continue to burn fat after your interval sessions

You maintain your muscle mass (unlike steady state cardio)

Calorie burning benefits

Metabolism booster

It is important to remember that it is a combination of healthy lifestyle changes that determine losing your belly fat. The number one thing to remember is to get serious about your diet. The days of empty calories are no longer if you are truly serious about getting rid of your gut.

Creamy sauces, sugary beverages, alcohol, baked goods, and all of the unnecessary junk in your diet all need to be eliminated. A clean eating lifestyle goes hand in hand with a consistent exercise program consisting of intervals and strength training.

Get Serious About Losing Belly Fat:

Start eating clean

Increase your intensity with intervals

Begin a strength training routine

After you implement the above you will definitely notice changes in your body and the belly fat will disappear.

All alcoholic beverages are considered to have empty calories. Empty calories are food/beverages that are high in calories and low in nutrition. The calories from alcohol tend to be stored as fat in the abdomen, hence the term “beer gut” or “beer belly.” Beer is the most common alcoholic beverage of choice. You can find beer being consumed at sporting events, bars/clubs, parties, and happy hours after a hard day’s work. After awhile those beer calories add up and so is born the beer gut.

If you’re in that situation and ready to make the commitment to lose the beer belly then avoid these common pitfalls:

1. Switching to “light” beer instead

No one said it would be easy and you may feel like not drinking beer at all will put a cramp in your social life but who cares? You are trying to lose that gut right? Then don’t think all is well because you’ve switched to drinking light beer. It’s all or nothing – cut out the beer to begin seeing results.

2. Cutting your calories too low

You know the beer calories added up so now you think dramatically cutting your calories will make up for all of that beer drinking. This is unhealthy and your body will not cooperate the way you think it will. In fact, a huge decrease in calories will cause your metabolism to slow down. It is safer and more effective to reduce the daily caloric intake moderately by 500 calories or so.

3. Only exercising your abdominal muscles

Don’t worry, you’re not the only one who has thought that doing crunches everyday will lose that beer gut. Watch any ab machine infomercial and that is how they market their product. You can’t spot reduce any area of your body. Fat needs to be burned overall by performing exercises such as cardio and strength training. Interval training workouts will burn fat much more effectively and strength training will build muscles to burn calories throughout the day.

4. Not changing your diet

Cutting out the beer isn’t the only thing that needs to change. You’ll need to cut out the other junk foods that went along with it in order to see results. Begin eating clean and your exercise efforts will really pay off. No exercise program is effective without cleaning up your diet.

Deciding to quit drinking beer or cutting back on it can be done. Keep a positive attitude and avoid situations that will tempt you to begin drinking. Easier said than done right? – any challenge is. You can be strong in mind and body!

Why does interval training work so well for weight loss? It’s because it pushes your body to use more energy than a typical cardio workout. Interval training can be incorporated into just about any exercise by increasing the intensity for a set amount of time. This includes exercises such as running, swimming, walking, or bicycling.

A typical cardio workout would look something like this:

warm-up

start your workout (running, swimming, cycling, etc.)

get your heart rate up

feel the lactic acid build up

get into a study pace

stay in that pace for 30 minutes or more

cool down

Sound familiar? Adding intervals will increase the intensity and burn more calories during and long after your workout. This in turn will help shed the pounds. Intervals do not need to be done everyday. Two to three times a week are sufficient along with regular cardio and strength training. Most importantly, don’t neglect your diet by eating a lot of processed foods. Try interval training in your regular cardio sessions and become a fat burning machine!

It is a fact that you cannot spot reduce any part of your body. The most common misconception is that doing constant abdominal exercises will get you to six-pack abs quickly. If you think about it, how can you display six-pack abs when you have a layer of fat surrounding them? The same goes for all muscles. If you want to display them, you have to reduce the fat.

Fat reduction is based on multiple factors:

Foods you eat and how much

Strength training (to build muscle and burn fat)

Cardio (interval training)

Successful fat reduction is based primarily on your food intake: quality and calories consumed. You’ve heard it before, cut out the processed foods. If it’s in a box, chances are it’s not good for you. Whole, natural foods are key – fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains. If you need help with what to eat, I recommend the Eat-Clean Diet. It is a great book for learning how to eat clean.

Start building muscle by strength training. Muscle burns more calories than fat and muscles burn calories all day just to maintain life. Don’t be intimidated by lifting weights if you are new to it. It’s not as difficult as you may think and there are tons of magazines and web sites that can teach you about good form (which is important to help prevent injuries.) You can also seek the help of a personal trainer (good idea) to teach you about free weights and weight machines.

Burn fat more effectively with interval training for your cardio workouts. Why waste time with long, boring, cardio sessions when you can incinerate fat with intervals? Your body weight is all that is really required for a good cardio workout. Intervals work well when combined with strength training. You will really begin to burn fat as long as you keep your eating habits healthy as well.

Spot reduction seems ideal if it existed. Since that isn’t the case, give the above tips a try and with discipline, you can become stronger, healthier, and be at an ideal weight.
