Burpee Bodyweight Exercise

One of the best full body workouts you can do is with the burpee exercise. The burpee makes use of your entire body which makes it a great exercise when you are short on time and need to get in a quick workout for your major muscle groups. The burpee is also referred to as “burpies”, “burpees”, or “the prison workout.”

Mike Rowe, the host of the show “Dirty Jobs” has stated that he uses burpees to stay fit while on location. As you can see from the demonstration below, the movements are great for small amounts of space such as a hotel room.

Burpees are relatively easy to do but if you are new to them, proceed with caution. The burpee will tire you out in no time so it takes time and practice to get better at them. If you are out of shape you may find it difficult to even pump out three repetitions. However, performing burpees on a regular basis will improve your strength, endurance, and general physical fitness overall.

I think the burpee makes a great exercise to throw into an interval routine. It is sure to challenge you physically. Often, that type of challenge is what pushes us to our next level of fitness.
